AUSTIN, Texas — AUSTin High School won the state title in the girls basketball championship Saturday, defeating Ault in the state semifinals.
The game between the high school team and the school’s rivals, the Allen High School football team, went into overtime and went into the fourth quarter.
Both teams scored seven points to tie it, but Ault scored seven more points in the extra period to seal the win for the Allen.
The school’s team of 12 seniors earned a state title for the second time this season.
The team also earned a trip to the state final, which will be held in the spring.
Ault’s senior team defeated the Allen team 5-3 in the semifinals.
Ault finished with a perfect 13-0 record and was the first Austin school to win the state championship since Ault beat the Allen in 2008.
The team was coached by Julie Riesman, who has coached at Ault for five seasons.
She has been at Aults program for over a decade.
